Walking for Pleasure

About our Social Events

Our group is very sociable and we enjoy many social events throughout the year. We will advertise up and coming events on our website under Social Events Programme, or look out for them on our Notice Board email if you are a member. We also have lots of members volunteer by making fabulous homemade cakes, or support our social team with whatever is needed. If you wish to support our social team with helping out with baking cakes or other general help please contact This email address is being protected from spambots. Events held during the day are generally preceded with a short walk. Some events have limited numbers but most welcome family and friends to join in all the fun, so come along you are very welcome.

New Year lunch

This usually takes place in January and we have a scrummy traditional Christmas Lunch with all the trimmings plus soft or alcoholic drinks.

Disco Night

If you love to mingle and dance then this is the event for you, it usually takes place on a Saturday night in February in St Peter’s Hall in Limpsfield.  We hire a fantastic local DJ and boogie away to music across the decades from the 50s, 60s and 70s!!

The price is always  reasonable as we order food from our local chip shop and you bring your own drinks

Annual Dinner

East Surrey Walkers was formed in 1983 and we celebrate our anniversary each year, usually in March or April, with a three-course evening meal in different venues.

Walking Wounded Tea Party

We have members who would love to join us on walks but unfortunately can’t, due to a physical or health problem, either short or long term, and in response the Walking Wounded Tea Party was organised and is open to every member who cannot manage our length of walks. The event takes place twice a year, in the spring and autumn. It is kindly hosted by our members in their own houses with refreshments and tea.

London Blind Walk

We assist the London Blind Walkers in spring by leading people with sight loss on about a seven mile walk finishing at The British Legion in Oxted for tea and mouth watering homemade cakes

Cream Tea

The event is held in the summer time and is kindly hosted by one of our members in their beautiful garden. Sometimes there can be a long or short walk beforehand and everyone is ready to polish off a nice cup of tea, fresh scones, topped with jam and cream and a different variety of homemade cakes.

Sausage Sizzler

This event usually takes place in July and is kindly hosted by two of our members in their garden. We have delicious BBQ sausages which are washed down with a glass of wine or soft drink.

Summer BBQ

This event is kindly hosted by one of our members in their beautiful garden and house. We have a very varied meat and salad selection plus drinks and we finish off with some scrummy desserts.

Annual General Meeting

This is held in the autumn and open to all members. Lunch is provided if you wish. The committee run through all their reports and members have the opportunity to discuss agenda items. Awards and change of committee members maybe part of the day, then we have some fun mingling and eating homemade cakes and drinking coffee and tea.

Autumn Social Evenings

In the past we have held a Skittles night, danced the night away at a 60’s & 70’s disco, and our last event was a very entertaining, fun Barn Dance!

So there is something for everyone, especially if you like home made cakes!!!
So please join us!!
