East Surrey Walkers

Walking for Pleasure

Those boots are made for walking……and dancing the night away!!

Saturday 24th November saw 71 enthusiastic East Surrey Walkers gathering at St. Peter’s Hall, Limpsfield for our Annual Autumn Social. Well, what a brilliant event! If you missed it, you won’t want to miss the next one…. It was Christine Scott’s first event as Social Secretary and if that is a taste of things to come, we are in for a treat over the next 3 years! It was a daring departure from the very successful Barn Dances we have had in the past and was enjoyed by everyone.

The evening started with a quiz – ably hosted by Quizmaster, Ian Scott. Some tricky questions and some frustratingly difficult conundrums caused many a furrowed brow and congratulatory cheer! Interspersed with this was the music from the local, fantastic 5-piece band, Mockingbird – think Eagles and Fleetwood Mac. Brilliant musicians and their choice of numbers was in perfect harmony with the audience. If you need any further proof of how good they were – ‘him indoors’ left our house saying….”I’ll stay for the quiz and fish and chips…..but then, if the band’s too loud, I’m going home”. He was up on the dance floor all night – as was everyone else!!

With very little help from me, the Quiz was won by our team, Odds and Sods, thanks to the brilliance and perseverance of certain members of the team and we all received a bottle of red wine for our efforts. The evening finished with an enthusiastic Conga snaking around the dance floor, ending the event with a Cuban Carnival flourish!! Well done Christine and Ian – a brilliant evening!
