East Surrey Walkers

Walking for Pleasure

ESW Outing To Canterbury Thursday September 22nd 2022

ESW had a successful coachtrip to Canterbury on Thursday 22nd September with 40 members joining for either a long walk, short walk or simply a day of sightseeing in Canterbury itself.   The weather was kind to us, warm and dry. Tony led 14 on the longer walk which started from East Stour Farm near Godmersham ( great amusement at the unfortunate coachdriver’s complicated manoeuvre to extract the coach from the farmyard) with a picnic lunch enjoyed in the churchyard at Chartham.

I led the shorter walk with 19 of us, which was a simple, flat stroll along the riverbank of the River Stour, arriving into Canterbury at the Western Gate.  Plenty of time then for a leisurely lunch and a trip to the cathedral or the shops.   We set up a lovely photo opportunity of the walkers posed on a bridge over the river but unfortunately the official photographer (my husband) manged to get a photo of his foot and a duck, not a walker in sight. So I can only include a couple of photos of views along the way.
