OK details now finalised.
The coach will pick up from Chalk Pit Wood, RH8 0LT ( plenty of onroad parking as lots of residential roads, look out for Anbu's store) at 9.15am.. Then on to the Hare & Hounds, Godstone, RH9 8LN, for the second pick up at 9.30am. Can only say please be on time as Sandwich is a good hour and a half's drive.
We will then lead 2 walks in Sandwich. Obviously this is coastal walking, so pretty flat (no stiles on either walk) but also pretty exposed. We must hope for dry, warm weather.
I will lead the shorter walk, 5.5 miles, through Royal St George golf course, along the coast, farmland and past the Sandwich Bird Observatory.
Karen is leading the longer walk, which is an 8-mile Sandwich to Pegwell Bay circular; a scenic trail which will take around 3-hours to complete (plus stops) and is fairly flat.
The route starts along the River Stour path, heading towards the coast, the Sandwich and Pegwell Bay Nature Reserve, featuring inter-tidal mudflats & salt marshes, and a section running along the coast and Princes Golf Club. Lots of opportunities for nature spotting. Almost the entire walk is out in the open, with a small section a little overgrown (trousers recommended).
A quick drink stop after 3-miles and a longer stop at 5-miles, with the option of a picnic/snack on the dunes (and a paddle in the sea!)
Would you please confirm to me,
As always you are welcome to just come along for a day of sightseeing in Sandwich if you wish. There is a town trail of historic buildings, a small museum and strolls along the River Stour. I attach a town map for those interested.
The coach will pick us up from the The Quay carpark at 4.30pm, hopefully home around 6-6.30pm.
Please confirm back to me asap if you are coming, as I have a waiting list of names if you can no longer make it (plus if you are intending to go on the longer walk) and then pay £20, details below.
