The 2019 Summer Cream Tea was held in Christine and Ian Scott's garden on Sunday 23rd June. An ajoining field provided car parking. Two walks preceded the tea; a long walk led by Tony Pearson and a short one led by Adam Wilson.
The day dawned grey but dry and thus it stayed for the afternoon event. A large "marquee" decorated with bunting had been erected which housed a number of tables and chairs. Late in the day it was realised that the invite had not asked people to bring a chair, but with some last minute borrowing from Ian and Christine’s lovely neighbours, the potential problem was solved and there were enough chairs to seat all 59 attendees.
Barbara Bulman, Patricia Manning and Sue Halsey not only provided lots of delicious cakes and meringues etc but arrived hours before to help prepare. (Barbara's contributions were gluten-free) Many people also brought a wonderful selection of cakes, scones etc and, in the end, we had too much food as is often the case. Tea, coffee and soft drinks were on offer.
Fran Edwards and Mark Fulston arrived early to help set things up.
As the guests arrived, Sue H. took the £3 sub and pinned on a little sticker to keep track of payments.
All seemed to enjoy the event and in addition we succeeded in raising £159.12 which will be used to help fund other social events.
So many thanks to Ian and Christine for so kindly agreeing to host and to Barbara B, Patricia M and Sue H who worked tirelessly before, during, and after the event. Not forgetting Ian and Christine’s neighbours for not only providing chairs but for helping put up and take down the marquee.
